At Halo Land Management, we don’t just pull records — we surface facts that fuel high-value decisions.
As an Heirship Research Specialist, you'll work across multiple regions to uncover history, trace succession, and develop a visual representation of ownership succession.
Founded in 2015 and headquartered in Canton, Ohio, Halo is one of the nation’s fastest-growing land service providers. We pair deep industry knowledge with a flexible, people-first culture that values precision, integrity, and results. If you’re a tenacious, detail-driven professional who loves solving puzzles — you’ll fit right in.
A Day in the Life: Heirship
As an Heirship Research Specialist, your work begins when a decedent is identified, triggering the need for a full genealogical investigation. Using both primary and secondary records, such as probate files, death, and historical archives, you’ll piece together the family lineage to establish the rightful heirs.
Your role involves carefully tracing generational relationships, verifying connections, and calculating fractional interests based on the succession of ownership. Findings are meticulously documented and organized into a clear flowchart.
Collaboration is key—you coordinate with the Halo team, address curative questions, and ultimately submit a comprehensive, well-documented heirship abstract that provides a clear picture of ownership succession.
What You’ll Do
Research and obtain estate files, obituaries, census records, and other genealogical documentation to establish ownership history.
Analyze and calculate fractional ownership interests in accordance with intestate succession laws.
Prepare and draft detailed heirship reports, visual flowcharts, and ownership summaries backed by supporting evidence.
Verify and document heirship connections across multiple generations using probate records and genealogical sources.
Communicate progress and provide timely updates as requested by project leads or clients.
Adhere to internal standard operating procedures (SOPs) and client-specific guidelines for research and reporting.
What Success Looks Like
Accurate, well-documented heirship reports delivered on time, with all sources properly cited.
Calculate fractional interests with precision.
Identifying potential issues and clearly documenting them before they escalate to the client.
