Summary

About the Position: The position is located within the Department of Logistics, Healthcare Technology Management Service at the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center.

Work Environment: Maintenance shop with ergonomic work bench, desk top computer, Testing, Measuring, Diagnostic Equipment (TMDE), tool bag and cart. Personal Protective Equipment will be provided as required for specific jobs. 60% of the work involves going to various in-patient and outpatient clinical spaces.

Duties

Help

  • Install complex medical equipment and/or systems.
  • Ensure that cabling such and hardware are in place, functioning, and capable of interfacing with hardware.
  • Inspect new Patient Care Equipment (PCE) to include receipt, inventory of parts, accessories, assembly, inspection, calibration, etc.
  • Perform maintenance, troubleshooting, repairs, overhaul, and surveillance testing of electronic components, medical equipment and systems.
  • Make recommendations to change manufacturer-provided documentation to correct errors and clarify operating and maintenance instructions, diagrams, guidelines, and terminology.
  • Perform bench work of items such as dental equipment, sterilizers, low capacity radiographic (x-ray) equipment, electrical beds, and basic laboratory equipment.
  • Operates Test Measurement and Diagnostic Equipment (TMDE).
  • Tests and classifies medical equipment in current use and determines serviceability, and disposition.

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes installing and/or servicing medical/dental diagnostic imaging equipment such as: sterilizer, low capacity radiographic (x-ray) equipment, dialysis equipment, electrical beds or basic laboratory equipment; performing troubleshooting of electronic components or medical equipment problems; and providing training and/or guidance to other technicians. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-08).

Education: Master's or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as: Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, or Biomedical Engineering.

OR

Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the first year (total semester hours minus 18) by 9. Add the two percentages.
